Gymtimidation

Updated: Sep 26

The gym is a very intimidating place for many people. Especially for those who have little to no gym experience, stepping foot into a gym for the first time can be overwhelming. Here are 3 tips for new gym-goers to make your first time gym experience more comfortable.        #1. Check your gym google business profile to view the popular times at your gym. This will give you a general understanding about how busy the gym might be at any given time. While these estimations are not perfect, they are are helpful for identifying general trends. You can use these popular time estimations to plan your workout during a less busy time. #2. Start your workout on the treadmill. Treadmill walking is one of the more accessible exercises for beginners. Starting here will help to alleviate any initial stress you have from when you first enter the gym. You can go straight the treadmill, it is relatively intuitive on how to operate them, so you won’t feel like you don’t know what you are doing. Just take a deep breath, you have made it to the gym (the hardest part!), and you’re just going for a walk! Many gyms’ place their treadmills overlooking much of the gym, so you might be able to take a look around, and get a feel for the layout of the gym while you walk.  #3. Go with a friend, family member, or partner if you can. Doing so will help you feel less alone, give you someone to talk to when you inevitably have rest periods in between exercises and sets, and give you someone to help motivate you to get through the workout.
