Learn to Enjoy Exercise!

Updated: Sep 23

Here are 3 tips to help find genuine enjoyment training in the gym. #1. Champion your progress in its’ many forms. Progress in exercising does not only have to be measured by the weight that you lift, the number on the scale, or the distance on the treadmill. Progress can be measured in both quantitative and qualitative ways. Quantitative data, like the number of workouts in a week or month, the number of reps, sets, or weight used, can all be super useful measurements to track progress in. Qualitative data, like rating your perceived exertion or perceived enjoyment on a given set or overall workout, and monitoring and improving exercise technique, are also wonderful measurements to track progress in. When you measure your progress in its’ many forms, you will notice that you are progressing in one way or another almost all of the time. Hopefully this realization is incredibly encouraging for you, and motivates you to keep going!      #2. Try one new exercise every workout. Doing so will help you discover new exercises that may become your new favorite. Especially for those who have been exercising a while and know their favorite exercises, let yourself explore new movements. You might be surprised by how much you like them! For many people the “newness,” or variety of exercise in and of itself, helps keep exercise interesting and more enjoyable. #3. Go into your workout with the goal of feeling better by the end of it.You know your body better than anyone. What you need out of your workout, and how you go about fulfilling that need, might change from workout to workout. When you consistently achieve the goal of feeling better at the end of your workouts, you develop a more positive outlook on exercise. I hope these 3 tips help you learn to enjoy exercise!
